Scripture: Romans 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

I can remember, as a senior in high school, we had a day called “Senior Government Day.” Every year, a day was set aside for the seniors to run the government of the city for that day. Students were able to fill every position…police officers, firemen, parks and recreation, and city council (All under supervision of course). Being the police officer was the most prized opportunity. Outside of pulling your friends over and giving them a fake ticket, the biggest responsibility was coming to the high school, arresting the principal for child abuse, and throwing him in jail for an hour or two, then letting him go. Upon his return to the school, he continued on with his duties as usual. Life after repentance is not quite so easy.

“Getting back to normal” is a task within itself. It is difficult enough, let alone dealing with those whose only purpose in life is to constantly bring back your wrong doing, and dangle it over your head. The constant pressure of trying to erase the reputation created by your actions is overpowering, and at times prompts you to question why you’re even trying to change your way of life.

Romans 8:1 above says it all. Once you have repented of your sins, and turned away from them, you are condemned no longer. God does not dangle that sin over your head, but removes it so that you can concentrate on what’s most important; establishing your relationship with him and getting your life back on track. I John 1:9 states that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Your mistake is not your death sentence…spiritually speaking. What you do with your life after repentance is up to you. What you make of your life is up to you. Starting out the process with your relationship with Jesus Christ will set your feet on the right path. Others may know you for you were, but God knows you for who you are and what you can become.
